Are you excited and ready to be a part of history? For as long as anyone could remember, Skydive Perris and Skydive Elsinore hosted the legendary event called the Dueling DZ’s. Although the event took a hiatus, it’s back and better than ever!

dueling dropzones 2018

The Dueling DZ’s is a friendly formation skydiving competition between jumpers of the two dropzones. The event’s aim is to help continue to build camaraderie between the two DZ’s  in this fun event.

Skydive Perris dropzone manager, and legend himself, Dan BC said, “In my long experience, for some absolutely stupid reason, most DZs which are near by each other have a very bad relationship. They are more out to cut each other’s throats than to support each other.  I’ve always thought this was ridiculous, unproductive and actually bad business. When I moved to California there was a very bad relationship with Elsinore and one of the first things I did was try to change that. Restarting Dueling DZs was part of that change and proof that the jumpers want nothing to do with the bad vibes the DZOs might have.”

Last year’s event was incredibly intense as a hilariously fun rivalry ensued between the teams, making the event incredibly fun and successful. So this year we’re ramping up for another great event this July 20th, 2019! Ready for more details?

four fun jumpers freeflying at Perris

Dueling DZ’s is a 6-Way event and teams will depart from Skydive Elsinore and Skydive Perris and land at the other dropzone. Each team will choose a dropzone to represent. There will be four rounds of randoms and blocks, exiting from 12,500’ with a working time of 50 seconds.

All licensed jumpers of any skill levels are welcome to attend! The scoring system will be of averages so it’s anyone’s game – plus, it’s going to be an incredible amount of fun! The reward is the award ceremony and celebration after the competition is complete at Sports Stop in Canyon Lake. Medals will be awarded along with bragging rights.

Be sure to follow the Facebook event page for real time updates, get in touch with members, look for teammates, and more! We also have more housekeeping details here for newer jumpers, visiting jumpers, and the curious.

Don’t delay friends! Get your team assembled, choose a DZ to represent and get registered!

Are you reading this and think, that sounds awesome! Your first steps to becoming a licensed skydivers are just a few clicks and a drive away! To whet your appetite more, check out a few articles on learning how to skydive to be able to participate in events like this!

INTERVIEW WITH KEITH HARRIOT
WWII AIRBORNE DEMO at SKYDIVE PERRIS

Skydive Perris is full of interesting people that fill the skies from different eras and different disciplines. From time to time there are round canopies that blossom above the dropzone jumping from the DC3 at low altitudes that you can’t help but stop and look up in awe. We were fortunate to catch up with the Commander of the WW2 / ADT West Coast Platoon that is involved with the WWII Airborne Demos to tell us more about this spectacular organization.

Tell us about you (where are you from, what is your current profession, hobbies/passions):

I am originally from San Diego but now live in Lake Arrowhead CA. I am a small business owner. I am an avid/passionate historian of American history with a special interest in World War II. I am a member of the WWII Airborne Demonstration Team and enjoy performing static line jumps all over the country and in Europe.

Tell us more about what the WWII Airborne Demo AND the D-Day Doll is (and their mission statements):

D-Day Doll is a C-53 “Sky Trooper” stationed and maintained with the Inland Empire Commemorative Air Force. The WWII Airborne Demonstration Team is headquartered in Frederick Oklahoma at Frederick Army Air Field (FAAF). Our team operates out of this Army Air Corps installation that was constructed in 1942. We have a hangar set up with barracks, mess hall, classrooms, rigger shops, offices and airborne training stations. In addition, we have a C-47 “Boogie Baby” and DC-3 “Wild Kat” we utilize for jump schools, training and shows. The mission of the WWII/ADT is to “Remember, Honor and Serve”. We keep the spirit of the WWII Paratroopers going along with working with several WWII Paratrooper Veterans.

What is your role helping the organizations?

I am the commander of the WWII / ADT West Coast Platoon. Our membership stretches across the country as well as into multiple countries around the world. We have recently established regional platoons on the West and East Coasts to help further our organization and mission. I also am a primary instructor with our jump schools teaching new students how to safely jump from a C-47. I also am a Jump Master for our jump operations.

How did you get involved with the organizations?

I started in 2012 as a student in one of our jump schools. I initially wanted to experience what the Paratroopers in WWII experienced and the WWII ADT offered the best opportunity in the world to stand as close as possible in their boots with the exception of being shot at when exiting the plane! I graduated and earn my wings and was so impressed with the teams mission, professionalism, safety and esprit de corps that I decided I desperately wanted to be an active member of this amazing organization.

Tell us more about the Airborne team training and demos:

We hold 3 jump schools in April, July and October at FAAF in Frederick OK each year. Here students are immersed in WWII Paratrooper training over nine days culminating hopefully with 5 jumps from a C-47 and having their jump wings pinned on them by a WWII Veteran. These are not fantasy camps they are the real deal and life changing experience for all students who graduate. We also perform demonstration jumps at air shows across the country and in Europe. We also attend veteran functions in our home towns across the country and always look for opportunities to further our mission to “Remember, Honor & Serve”.

What are the future goals of the organization(s):

We hope to have a few more regional platoons established as well as continue to grow and expand our home at FAAF as well as train additional key personnel and be able to offer even more opportunities for individuals to attend a jump school and hopefully continue with the team in an active role.

Is there a website for more information:

We have a newly designed web site at www.wwiiadt.org that we are continuously working on that individuals can obtain information about our organization and mission.

Are there certain people you’d like to recognize within the organization?

We have so many key members with varying skills that enable us to perform and continue to grow which makes our team so amazing and top notch. Our founding father is Richard Wolf an ex army special forces who gave birth to our organization and found our home at FAAF in Frederick OK. Our Commanding Officer is Colonel Raymond Steeley, ex army special forces who directs and orchestrates most of our operations.

Is there anything else you’d like to add:

If you are between 18-75, male or female and would like to join our team I would be honored to talk with you. Whether a “bucket list” item to earn your jump wings or a desire to be a part of a team we can help. You do not have to be a jumper solely to join our team. We have positions in many support areas and ground crew for those with no interest in jumping. If you want to be a part of something bigger and better than yourself, be a valuable member of an amazing team and strive to live our mission to “Remember, honor and serve” than I would be honored to talk more with you!

2016 was our 40th year of operation. And what an amazing 40 years it’s been!  The 40th-anniversary celebration was a weekend I’ll never forget.  Truly touching, having the opportunity to listen to skydivers from four decades telling stories of what a huge part of their lives Skydive Perris has been.  We are grateful for our wonderful community and the family of skydivers we have had the lifelong honor to be a part of.

Growth – New Jumpers and a Plane!

And our family is growing!  Last year we had 180 AFF graduates.  146 of which got their A Licenses and are jumping with us now!  Some of them are already coaches and working towards becoming instructors.  Others are jumping on teams.  And all of them have enjoyed hanging out at the Bombshelter, flying in the tunnel or looking at the stars from the campfire.

On any sunny day at Skydive Perris, you’ll see skydivers from 18 to 85.  They’re doing 4-way, 8-way, big ways, free flying, wingsuiting, tracking, CReW and angle flying.  It doesn’t matter what discipline you’re into.  We’re all skydivers.  We love safely sharing the skies together, and get off on watching other skydivers fly in amazing ways we may never have tried, yet

With this newsletter, we want to keep you posted on everything happening at the DZ.  And in 2017 there is a lot going on for everyone!

You’re going to see a 5th Skyvan come online bringing our fleet of multiengine aircraft to a total of 8.  Unless of course, you want to include the DC-9 which is on schedule to be back in the air this year!

Let the swooping commence!  Stand by for more info about the new high-performance landing area!!

USPA National Championships Coming To Skydive Perris

We’re stoked to be hosting the 2017 USPA National Skydiving Championships this September!  Everyone across the country is expecting this to be one of the largest Nationals ever!

Competitors from every freefall discipline will be here showing their stuff.  There is nothing more awesome than watching FS, FF, WS and Speed flyers all working their magic in the sky.  You’re going to want to be a part of this historic event!  There are different divisions in each discipline so whether you just want to throw a team together and participate in the biggest Skydiving competition in the world or go for the Gold this is the year to do it.  Many teams are already training, many more are still forming.

We start out on the first day doing 16ways (usually from two planes!) and just get bigger from there. Skydive Perris is planning to use as many of our fleet of Skyvans as we can to help make it happen. Travis and Andy are collecting the best of the best freeflyers for this one.  If you’re not one of the best yet, you can be by November!  They’re holding FF Big Way Camps throughout the year to get you ready.  Camps are scheduled at Perris on June 23 – 25 and November 7 & 8.

Santa at Skydive Perris

On Saturday, December 3, 2016, Skydive Perris and Perris Indoor Skydiving partnered with the Menifee and Perris Police Departments to kick off the annual “Shop with a Cop” event.

The annual event is an opportunity to spread Christmas cheer, assist children in need and deepen the connection between local law enforcement and the Perris community.

35 area children participated in this year’s event which kicked off with a patrol car ride from from Perris Station to the Perris Walmart. Each child received a $125 Walmart gift card which they used to purchase Christmas gifts for their family and friends. Deputies and local volunteers accompanied the children as they selected their holiday gifts.

After the shopping spree, the children and deputies were invited to Skydive Perris for a luncheon around the pool. Following lunch, the children were treated to a demonstration by the Riverside County Sheriffs’ K-9 Team and a surprise visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus!

Skydive Perris was proud to help sponsor this year’s event. Our thanks go out to all of our local law enforcement officers and the other community members and organizations who helped make the event such a success. We wish everyone in the Perris community a very happy Holiday Season!
